A whirlwind romance led these two to tie the knot admist of the community Eilidh grew up in. From the breathing landscape to the hub of the village hall we love everything about this Scottish island wedding.

How did you meet and become engaged?
We actually met by online dating. It was my first date using the website and I was extremely nervous! I agreed to meet Conor off the bus, as he had been away visiting his family in Belfast. We went for few drinks and bite to eat. Because I was so nervous I starting talking non stop! We got on amazingly and within a couple of weeks decided to have a relationship. Six months later, Conor took me out for dinner at the Culloden House Hotel in Inverness and got down his knee and proposed! I actually didn’t believe him at the time and started giggling. He was so nervous he kind of fell off the sofa and asked me to marry him! It wasn’t until he showed me the ring that I realised he was being serious.
Our wedding day was inspired by…
We are both very chilled out and relaxed, so we wanted to create the same atmosphere for our wedding. The whole village helped us out with the wedding. I am so lucky and blessed to have been brought up in such a small and friendly community and it was all hands on deck the couple of weeks before the big day. Conor loves it up in Skye as he can completely relax. Eventually we would like to live and bring our own children up there.
Tell us something about your day that might surprise us…
We managed to get some sunshine!!!
Tell us about your dress – how did you find it?
This was the first dress I tried on …and I fell in love with it straight away. However, I thought I should try a few more on before I made the decision. I ended up really liking another, which was a completely different style. I got my bridesmaids together and went to decide between the two, but the first dress had been sold …so I bought the second. About four months before the wedding, I saw the original dress on a Facebook buy/swap/sell page and made the decison to go and try it on again and knew it was the one! I came back home and decided to sleep on it, but by the morning Conor told me to go and get the dress as he knew how much I had liked it and we could manage it within our budget. So I finally got the dress!

First dance – choreographed routine or sedate shuffle?
We finally agreed on Jason Mraz “I won’t give up” as our first dance and the band learnt the song for us and put their own twist to it, which was really nice .
Any advice for future brides and grooms?
Enjoy every minute of the day as it goes passed so quickly.
Why Scotland?
We got married in Scotland as Eilidh was brought up her and it is the most beautiful and magical place on this earth!
What’s the one thing you’ll never forget about your big day?
The overwhelming feeling of love when we saw each other at the altar. We had been apart for the week running up to the wedding and had both been so busy with wedding preparations. It was such an amazing feeling when we saw each other again!

I love the story of Connor almost falling off the sofa as he proposed. Anyone else got a funny engagement story to share? Alie x

Venue – Elgol Parish Church, followed by Elgol Village Hall. Both the Elgol church and the village hall was built by the people of Elgol who saved up the money by a lot of fundraising!
Photographer – Susie Swanson at SDM Photography When we first agreed on a date for the wedding I started looking at photographers around the Highlands. We stumbled across Susie’s website and instantly fell in love with her wedding portfolio. She came up to Skye the night before and made me feel completely at ease as my wedding nerves were kicking in. Susie was fantastic on the day, she even got me into my wedding dress! She managed to capture the best day of our lives just exactly as I’d imagined and I couldn’t be more grateful, to have these photographs to remind us of all the happy memories.
FloristThe Flower Company. I actually got my best friend Euan to sort out my flowers. The girl in the shop thought this was quite strange, until she met me and realised how little I knew about flower arrangements! I was going for a rustic theme to the wedding so my sister decorated Jam jars which I took to the florist to fill with lovely flowers. She also did the bridal bouquets and a little wand for the flower girl – they looked amazing.

    Hi Conor & Eilidh
It was a truly wonderful evening, you both looked stunning, as did the bridesmaids and it was an honour to be part of your celebrations.
The hall was brilliantly decorated to perfection…
The band were fantastic but could have played longer as we Elgolians prefer to dance & party for days after a good wedding. Lol
Hope you both have wonderful, long and fulfilled lives together…
All the very best to you both and not forgetting the angelic Ellie
    Lots of Love
