From the Christmas film projected onto the gallery walls to the snowflake wedding favours, this wonderful winter wedding is full of warmth and sparkle. And the uber stylish reception venue was the perfect fit for a couple who met at art school. We are experiencing major wedding envy today…
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT OR GRADUAL ATTRACTION?
We met in 2001 at the Glasgow School of Art, studying Architecture and were friends for six years first, so definitely gradual attraction.
How did you personalise your wedding day?
By involving as may of our friends and family as possible. Sam’s sister Hannah married us and the ceremony was really tailor made and felt so unique. Our friend Iain was our piper, my cousin Caroline sang during our drinks reception and we projected one of our favourite Christmas films (It’s a Wonderful Life) onto the gallery walls. A fabulously talented family friend, Jim Guy toasted our haggis, our friend Michael Lewis created a digital graphic of snow falling which we projected onto the walls surrounding the dance floor… we gave our guests tree decorations as favours which we laser cut from plywood sheets.
What was on your wedding menu?
Haggis for starters with a very theatrical ‘Address to a Haggis’ performed by a close family friend, followed by Rack of lamb and Cranachan. We had Scottish cheese and mince pies made by Sam’s mum for later in the evening.
First dance – choreographed routine or sedate shuffle?
Our band played 1950s style music so it was a very high energy and overly excited attempt to jive to Johnny B. Goode!
What is your advice for future brides??
Try not to take it too seriously.
Where did you spend your wedding night?
At my parent’s house! We went home with my family and had tea and toast around the breakfast bar swapping stories about the day. We then set off early the next morning up to Skye to stay in the fabulous Kinloch Lodge for two nights – the restaurant is outstanding – before heading over to Reykjavik to bring in the New Year.
Why Scotland?
It’s home.
I love the sound of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ being projected onto the gallery walls. What a genius idea! Christina x
