at Altskeith Country House
Loch Ard-Scotland
Inspired by Norwegian and Scottish traditions, with a twist, Ingrid & Grant were married in the gardens of a country house by a beautiful loch in the Trossachs. From the traditional dress to the superhero t-shirts and Batman cakes, we just love their take on tradition.
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT OR GRADUAL ATTRACTION?
Love at first sight!!
We were inspired by…
A mixture of Norwegian and Scottish traditions with our own little twists.
How did you personalise your wedding day?
We started with the invitations – our guests were coming from all over the world (New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, America and Bulgaria) – so we set up our own “wedding website”. This gave everyone a chance to log on and confirm attendance, see the venue, book hotels nearby and give food requirements – it really came in handy.
Then we had the outfits, the Scottish guests came dressed in kilts whilst the Norwegian guests wore their national outfits known as bunad – it made a really interesting mix of colours.
The groom had his own little joking touch. He and his ushers wore superhero T-shirts under their kilt outfits and did a great photo posing session with the bridesmaids. and the speeches given in the wedding were also in a mix of languages, to cater to everyone.
What was on your wedding menu?
Our menu offered chicken, steak or salmon and the caterers provided for our vegetarian guests separately.
First dance – choreographed routine or sedate shuffle?
A slow dance for us – Lonestar’s Amazed.
What is your advice for future brides??
Make sure you make some personal time for you and your new husband on the day. Move away from the party, even if it is only a couple of minutes.
Where did you spend your wedding night?
At the Honeymoon suite in the country house.
Why Scotland?
We actually had two ceremonies. One in Scotland and one in Norway. The main wedding was in Scotland to accommodate the groom’s family as it was difficult for them to travel. We then went to Norway the following weekend and had another ceremony for guests who couldn’t make it over.
WHAT WAS THE ONE THING YOU’LL NEVER FORGET ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY?
Seeing each other for the first time on the big day! Caught each others eyes and took our breaths away!
I love the sound of a wedding here, followed by another in Norway the following weekend. Twice the fun! Christina x
