Alison + James

Photographed by Soraya Photography

at Fasque House

Aberdeenshire-Scotland

A country estate in rural Aberdeenshire was the perfect setting for an autumnal celebration full of music, song and great Scottish food. We love Alison and James’ laidback wedding style…

HOW DID YOU PERSONALISE YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We involved our friends and family in the day as much as possible, such as having friends play the piano and sing during our ceremony and having one of the ushers acting as our Master of Ceremonies. We didn’t want to add too many extras to our day because we loved the venue as it was.
WHAT WAS ON YOUR WEDDING MENU?
We had Scottish elements in our menu such as an Arbroath smoked pate and cranachan in the dessert. However, we decided to just pick dishes we really enjoy!
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES?
Extend the celebrations as much as possible, the day goes so quickly and we really enjoyed having a gathering the day before with close friends and family, especially because many had not met before.

FIRST DANCE – CHOREOGRAPHED ROUTINE OR SEDATE SHUFFLE?
Grand March – We didn’t fancy the idea of an awkward attempt at a romantic dance with all our guests watching on so it was the perfect opportunity to involve all our guests in our first dance.
WHERE DID YOU SPEND YOUR WEDDING NIGHT?
We were lucky enough to be able to spend our wedding night in a gorgeous little turret house in the grounds of the estate. It was the perfect escape at the end of the night.

WHAT WAS THE ONE THING YOU’LL NEVER FORGET ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY?
Having so many family and friends there to celebrate with us and seeing them all enjoying themselves as much as we were!
Why Scotland?
I was born and grew up in Scotland and James’ family also has a Scottish connection. Wherever we married half of our guests would have to travel, so we decided that it would be nice to share the Scottish scenery with our guests.
