A 17th century church, nestled in the foothills of the Pentlands, was the romantic setting for a fun, relaxed celebration. And a huge dose of sunshine was an added bonus.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT OR GRADUAL ATTRACTION?
Way too complicated for either of those answers! We met in the last year of high school and had the hots for each other, but were too shy to act on it. A year or so later we happened to meet whilst out on the town and we got together – three-and-a-half years later we split up. We lived our separate lives for six years, but seemingly no one ever measured up for either of us. After a chance meeting, when we both realised the other was single, we got back together, and that’s been us since.
HOW WAS THE QUESTION POPPED?
Neil proposed after making me climb up a hill in the baking heat, because he said it had fantastic views at the top! On a hillside in Porto Fino, Italy.
DID YOU EMBRACE OR DITCH TRADITION?
We embraced it for the most part, and just ditched the overly stuffy rules. At the top table we ditched the usual rule of where everyone should be sitting and had a round table so everyone could interact and enjoy their dinner.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE?
My best maid had emigrated to New Zealand a year before the wedding (with the intention of returning for a holiday here for the wedding). Before she moved she had left six boxes, one for each month, that her mother was to deliver to me on the 8th of each month, starting the January of that year. All of this was a complete surprise to me and each box had a theme and relevance to our lives, be it mixed CDs of special songs, a hen party box, a pamper box, etc. One of the last ones was a something old, new, borrowed blue box, it was the most thoughtful thing ever!
ANY UNEXPECTED MOMENTS?
That it was fantastic scorching sunshine.
BEST COMPLIMENT ON YOUR WEDDING?
Everyone mentioned how relaxed and fun the day was.
HONEYMOON OR MINI-MOON?
Honeymoon – Las Vegas, San Francisco and Maui.

CLOSE YOUR EYES, and THINK OF YOUR WEDDING DAY. NOW DESCRIBE IT IN THREE WORDS…
Fun, sunny, dancing.
WHY SCOTLAND?
Where else? For us no other country was ever in consideration, it’s our home.
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT BEING HITCHED?
Being able to refer to someone as ‘the wife’ or ‘my husband’, a novelty!

I love the photos by the lake – so dreamy and romantic! And how thoughtful was Nicola’s chief bridesmaid, with her monthly gifts? What a lovely friend. Christina x
