Drumtochty Castle

Fairytale Wedding

Wednesday Update

If you haven’t heard of our fairytale £18,000 Scottish wedding competition yet, then we’re guessing you must have been on holiday…?!

This morning we’re starting our regular #WFILwedding Wednesday updates – today we begin by letting you see a little more of Drumtochty Castle (the spectacular setting for the We Fell In Love wedding) and we’re sharing an awesome wedding film by Cherry Tree Films which will whet your appetite for the wedding you could be winning.
Drumtochty Castle is a pretty special place. It sits in its own Scottish Glen and has acres of stunning ground, (including its own church and private lake!). For one couple, the Castle will be all theirs from the night of Friday 22nd until the morning of Sunday 24th November 2013 as they celebrate their wedding with family and friends. Here’s a glimpse into the wedding day of Lesley and Mark who held their wedding at Drumtochty Castle…
Tell us about your engagement…How was the question popped?
After being together for six years we decided to spend Christmas 2009 together at Mark’s family home in Northern Ireland. Turned out be one that we will never forget.
We had just bought our first home together and Mark was still a student so an engagement ring was the last thing on my mind.
Then on Christmas Eve Mark popped the question along with the perfect engagement ring! Within an hour our parents had spread the word and Mark’s parent’s home was full of well wishers. It was amazing to share this with all especially Mark’s Granny Peggy who was delighted!
Why did you pick Drumtochty Castle as your wedding location?
Lesley and her mum had been looking through a wedding magazine when they first saw Drumtochty Castle. They got in contact with Ewan, the estate manager, arranged an appointment and then told Mark! We drove from Glasgow to Auchenblae and from the moment we saw St. Palladius church we were hooked! It just got better and better!
The tree lined drive, the grounds and then there it was! The beautiful castle that we knew there and then was the place for us. We also wanted to have an intimate venue where people travelling long distances could relax and feel at home for a couple of days. Drumtochty Castle is this and more as it is exclusively yours.

Tell us about your wedding day. Did you have a theme or a style?
We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and fun! Almost like a big family get together and then suddenly there is a wedding. Having Drumtochty Castle for the whole weekend definitely helps get everyone relaxed! From the hog roast on the Friday night right through until Sunday morning when you relive the most amazing day of you life with your family and friends while having your first breakfast as husband and wife.
We would describe our wedding style as traditional with a bit of vintage thrown in, made perfect with personal touches and of course our amazing flowers by Nicky Walker!
What is the one thing you’ll never forget about your wedding day?
There are so many things we will never forget but the main thing was taking our vows. We felt like were the only two people in the church and nothing else mattered.
Other things like our 90’s rave (because you can)…Mark’s dancing…our singer Hollie Burns…Porthlethan and district pipe band…the speeches…the list goes on. However, you don’t get to see everything that happens on your wedding day. We were lucky enough to have Cherry Tree Films capture everything and provide us with more amazing memories! Something we are so grateful for.
How did you feel watching your wedding film for the first time?
It was emotional! Everything came flooding back. We watched it over and over again with family and friends! I think our parents have just about passed it round to all their friends now! When we visit Mark’s family people stop us to say they have never seen anything like it!
What is your top tip for anyone planning their wedding?
Have fun, stay friends!

I just love these guys. They really knew how to have a good time and I’m sure they’d do this all over again in a heartbeat (with each other of course!).

Drumtochty Castle really is an amazing location for a wedding!

Look forward to bumping into them again soon hopefully!

This was the most magical and special wedding I have ever been too. Marks comment above about it just “getting better and better” was my line for the day. It was breathtaking and as soon as you caught your breath again it was taken from you moments later. The venue was perfect. Not only was it stunning, the surroundings were stunning too. The venue brought everyone together and by the end of the weekend everyone knew eachother and we had all made new friends. Everyone truly felt part of the wedding and the whole weekend. The church was so quaint and beautiful. The wedding cars were gorgeous, the vows were emotional and beautifully said, the meal was delicious, the speeches were phenomenal, the ballroom was so lovely decorated and what a ball we had at night! The singer, Hollie was amazing, the 90s disco was so much fun and then the pipe band!!! Wow!!!! It was perfect. And that is before I even comment on the bride and groom who were stunning. Absolutely beautiful/handsome. Breathtaking over and over again is the only way I can describe it! Wish I could relive it again and again…. Which I do regularly with the amazing cherry tree DVD which captures the day perfectly.ReplyCancel

We all had such an amazing day at Mark and Lesley’s wedding. We were in awe of the venue as soon as we arrived and didn’t want the weekend to end. Drumtochty is absolutely perfect for a wedding…but Mark and Les put so much thought into every detail and made everyone feel so special and part of their big day. Hands down-one of the best weddings we have ever been to and we get emotional every time we watch the wedding video.
Happy times to anyone getting married there!ReplyCancel

This video has just reminded me of what a memorable day that wedding was. The setting was breathtaking, every tiny detail was perfect, the bride looked stunning, the food was 5 star, but most importantly the people were amazing and that stems from the environment and tone set by the bride and groom. You could not meet two people who belonged together more. They smiled from start to finish and enjoyed every second of it.

The music varied from classical and elegant to pop and energetic. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the speeches because of the emotion between these two brilliant people.

Put simply, the best wedding I’ve ever been to and I can’t imagine it ever being topped. My wife still says “I loved our wedding but if had a choice of a wedding to replicate, it would be Mark and Leslie’s.”

I hope you are still all loved up.

    Lots of love
    Kevin, Sophie and bump.ReplyCancel
