We fell in love with

Liggy’s cake company

——– sponsored post ——–

Bakeaholic Liggy Morgan has been creating scrumptious wedding and celebration cakes since opening her Edinburgh cake boutique in 2007. Now with a second shop in Glasgow, the award-winning Liggy’s team are renowned for their stylish and uber-glam wedding cakes. We caught up with Liggy to talk ruffles, textures and other cake trends. Prepare to fall in love…

How did you get into cake-making?
I started the business six years ago, baking many (many!) cupcakes, before opening the William Street store in Edinburgh four years ago. The Bearsden (Glasgow) shop opened two-and-a-half years after and it’s been wedding-tastic ever since!
Which styles of wedding cake do you specialise in?

We are really focused on design-led wedding cakes that are very specific to the couple. We offer a sketch up process for brides to see the cake and we are always delighted to incorporate much loved details from their dress, jewellery, flowers, etc. etc., into the final design.

We specialise in highly ornate, intricate and bespoke designs. We like to think of our “house style” as modern romantic, although our designers love to be challenged by couples looking for something a bit different!

What have been the highlights so far?

The main highlights have been our VOWS Award wins in 2011 and 2012 – these were a fab reward for all our hard work and the time we spend on our customer service.

We are also lucky enough to hear back from our couples following their weddings, so seeing the big “cake cutting” photo from a particular wedding cake we loved making, always feels like a bit of a highlight!

What trends are you seeing in cake design at the moment?

The biggest trend we are seeing is for textured cakes. This more often than not replicates detailing on the bride’s dress, ruffles, lace piece piping, appliqué work and sugar flowers, which are more like the corsages and details on the dress, than they are like actual flowers at the wedding.

Colours also seem to be less popular now than they were last year, with brides favoring papery white and cream textures – no glitter here!

And when you’re not making wedding cakes…?
As well as designing and making our beautiful wedding cakes, we have also launched a range of custom-made wacky birthday cakes where the customer gives us a list of crazy items relating to the birthday boy/girl and we make them in cake form to look like they are all piled up! They are always real “one off” creations, but we love doing them!

How amazing do these cakes look? If, like us, you’ve got a huge crush on Liggy’s, then swing by their website for more cake eye-candy. And to chat with the team at Liggy’s Cakes about your big day, call the Edinburgh shop on 0131 538 6395 or the Glasgow shop on 0141 942 6620.
