Summer Loving

Scottish summers are all about the long nights and the promise of warmer weather. Perfect for your wedding guests to don their hats, ready for sipping Pimms on the lawn!

If you’re planning a summer wedding in Scotland it is possible to allow yourself to dream (and plan) for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The great thing about choosing to tie the knot in Scotland is that it is only the minister or celebrant that needs to be licensed, not the venue. What does that mean for you? It means you can pretty much get married anywhere – with permission of course. We love that!

Summer colours should make you smile. We love bolds and brights that will look vibrant on a sunny day (and brighten the day should it be less sunny). For bridesmaids you can also think shorter as well as full-length as summer is the time when you don’t need to plan for the warm wrap.

You can continue the colour theme when thinking of food for your wedding. In Scotland, berries come into their own in summer. Strawberries and blueberries work well for deserts and for canapés. You can also introduce colour in your Pimms or a cheeky wee champagne cocktail. Or what about organising some ice cold beers? Sure to be a hit on a balmy summers’ day with the boys! And then, of course, there’s the ultimate summer treat everyone will love – ice-cream for your guests.

Outdoor locations for photographs become more possible in the summer months. You might just think of planning to get some shots in a field, on a hill or simply slip into the gardens to bask in the sun… Chat to your photographer and share your ideas (and hear some of theirs too!)

Not only does summer make you think of venturing outside for photographs, your guests will also want to enjoy the sun. So why not plan your entertainment so that if the weather’s nice your whole wedding reception can decant outdoors? Parasols, outdoor furniture, chilled out music and giant games mean the party can make the most of the weather.

And when you’re thinking of summer in Scotland then think on those long summer nights. Ideal for dancing until the wee hours or watching the sun go down. We love summer.
