After many years together, this couple surprised family and friends by eloping to the Isle of Skye for their wedding ceremony onboard a luxury yacht. With its stunning scenery and rugged landscapes, could there be a more perfect setting for romance?

Who saw who first?
I saw Alex first – we met on a night out and dated for about 17 years – well you don’t want to rush in to these things!
We were inspired by…
Being with each other in a spectacular setting, the mountains and the sea, keeping it simple, special and being ourselves.
How did you personalise your wedding day?
The whole day was all about us, we had everything the way we wanted it – we were the only guests! No-one else knew – we told everyone after the event! We both phoned our mothers from the yacht that afternoon to tell them we had got married.
What was on your wedding menu?
A wonderful lunch that afternoon on board the yacht – the best smoked venison we have ever tasted. In the evening we had a 5 course dinner and the hotel added my favourite dessert to the menu just for that evening – lemon meringue pie.
What is your advice for future brides and grooms?
Have the wedding day you want – relax and enjoy it to the full. And there is no better backdrop than the magnificent scenery of Scotland and Scottish hospitality.
What is the one thing you’ll never forget about your big day?
I can’t list just one thing, it was all amazing – Alex’s smile, laughing a lot, the relaxed atmosphere, great people – Iain Stormont our registrar (a really special ceremony), Suzanne Black our photographer (for putting us at ease and creating such a wonderful record of our day), Ken Gunn and Anne Gracie our witnesses and such good company on the day (owners of the Duisdale and Solus Na Mara), the stunning scenery of Skye, the lovely weather (we had our rain macs just in case) and the kindness of the staff and guests at the Duisdale.
We love the dramatic scenery of Skye. Could this be the place for the two of you to escape together to be wed?
