A Velvet Revival

As winter approaches, the fabric of the season is velvet. It’s been seen on the catwalk, from Ralph Lauren’s velvet suit through to Gucci’s floor-sweeping dresses. Here are some ideas for how you can embrace velvet this season…

Think wedding dresses with a touch of velvet. Those that have caught our eye are (top-bottom; left-right): Vera Wang “Eliza” & “Ethel”; Claire Pettibone “Provence”; Caroline Castigliano “Beauty” and Stewart Parvin “Put Yourself in my Place”

Or how about the stunning celtic-inspired wedding dresses from Lindsay Fleming? “Ros” featured here has a boned and fitted red velvet bodice – lush!

And we are swooning a lot over this sumptuous velvet cloak with ostrich feathers from Joyce Young.

For some velvet on your shoes, you could also introduce some colour. We love Christian Louboutin’s and Jimmy Choos’ velvet sandals and for the real ‘wow’ factor Chanel’s red velvet shoes fit for a queen. Christian Louboutin’s velvet trainers are a treat for the boys and Nine West’s burgandy shoes are perfect for winter weddings.

If you’re attending a wedding, or a Christmas party night, here are some outfits for the season. We’ve spotted this black velvet evening dress from Hobbs, which would look great on the arm of Lavin’s Velvet DJ. Or to show off those heels, how about Adrianna Papell or LK Bennet? And for the ubiquitous little black jacket, we like these from Coast and Next.
We love the recent revival in velvet. What trends are you following as winter approaches?…
