Edinburgh Castle & The Caledonian Hilton Hotel

Edinburgh-Scotland

This is a love story straight from the movies. Jennifer and Andrew met onboard a flight that Jennifer shouldn’t have been on and Andrew almost missed. And like all good fairytales, this pair married in a castle and rode off in a horse and carriage.

Love at first sight or gradual attraction?
Love at first sight! Andrew, driving down from Hartford, Connecticut to JFK Airport, and caught in the normal traffic jams around New York, was running very late for the 19:30 flight BA176 to London. Meanwhile, Jennifer was flying up from Houston, Texas after her original flight was cancelled, and was now heading for the same flight. The check-in agent managed to get Andrew onto the plane, and upgraded him to the upper deck of the 747, in the last remaining seat. Well, what a Christmas holiday treat that was! Not only was Andrew upgraded, but he was seated opposite Jennifer. After breaking into conversation, and the great hospitality of the in-flight crew, Andrew and Jennifer now infamously talked all the way past Iceland, before reclining those great business class seats for a deep sleep and dreams of what could be…
How was the question popped?
On the Sky Deck of the Sears (Willis) Tower in Chicago, Illinois. Andrew wanted to propose in the air like we met!
Any unexpected moments?
Andrew was full of surprises. The day before he invited a dance instructor, who choreographed our first dance. The most fantastic surprise was the carriage ride through Edinburgh from the castle to the Caledonian Hotel. AMAZING!!! In the middle of the wedding breakfast, the fire alarm went off and we evacuated from the Caledonian Hilton Hotel and continued the party outside!
Did you embrace or ditch tradition?
Semi-traditional Scottish & American
Close your eyes and think of your wedding day…now – describe it in three words…
Absolutely breath taking.
Why Scotland?
We went to Hogmanay in 2009. We loved Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop to the city, the people and the Scottish heritage!
